The Early Batmobile

This is how the car first appeared when delivered to the studio.  Structurally it is the same car seen later in the series but it has a flat black paint scheme with airbrushed white trim.  The studio undoubtedly took one look at it and realized that it could never be properly maintained like this.  It was then given a coat of normal high gloss automotive paint which could simply be washed and waxed as needed.  Also the trim color was changed from white to red in acknowledgment of the impact of the then new "color" TV sets making there way into most peoples homes.  As far as I know the car never actually appeared in the series in this condition, these are just early publicity photos probably taken before filming began.  The car also sports its original "Mickey Thompson" tires which blew out on the first day of filming.
