THE THIRD MISSION

When Taylor's ship impacts the dead sea and sinks, it jettisons a radio marker buoy on a tether so the subsequent missions can locate it. After finding that the terrain around the lake will not support life, Taylor must go somewhere that will since they don't have enough supplies to wait for the scout missions behind them (see Mission Plans). It is this marker buoy that will also enable the salvaging of Taylor's ship so the three apes can later "Escape" (but that is a different story). Even when Taylor returns to the area on his way to the excavation he knows there is no one at the dead sea to help him because the Scout missions still aren't due to arrive. Being a good soldier he keeps this tactical information from his ape "friends". Perhaps he can return later...
