The "Cylons" were a race of machines who had long ago destroyed their creators and had graduated to destroying all intelligent biological life.  Their primary mode of transportation and chief weapons were small three place fighter craft like the one seen above.  Possessing no name, they were simply known as "Cylons" along with their mechanical crew.  This example is in fine condition but close examination will reveal missing parts, from years of combat no doubt.  Once again, like the Viper, close examination will also show that the commercial model kits are excellent reproductions of the studio miniatures.  The "Cylon Raider" never existed as a full scale mock-up, only the cockpit interior was built as a set piece.  Also see the "Battlestar Galactica" from the same show.

Cylon Cockpit Set

The cockpit was a fairly simple set with little in the way of instrumentation.  Presumably external instrumentation was not really necessary, the ship being operated primarily through a direct ship/crew interface connection.  The set did not even feature a separate platform, it was simply built right on the stage floor.  The most interesting part of the set was the canopy louver assembly.  This was added so shots could be composed looking "in" from "outside" and was built from a bright sheet metal, like stainless steel.
