Currently a group of model builders are in the process of trying to make the "ultimate plans" of the Star Trek Shuttlecraft. To support that effort the "Vault" will be posting such study material as is needed to achieve that goal (see the Plans Section for the completed drawings).
The Top Group of Study Charts
In the top group of images are two that analyze the angles in the Shuttlecraft design by way of photo traces, a third which compares the photo trace to the profile drawing found in the book "The Making of Star Trek" (TMOST), a forth which presents a way of determining the width of the design and a fifth with a method of determining the heights of the elements at the rear of the ship.
Another image has been added to the top group which describes the standard "communicator panel" found on the various Star Trek interior sets. The dimensions and proportions are based on information found in the "Profiles in History" auction catalog where one of these items was sold. Since this panel also appears on the dash of the Shuttlecraft, it will be used as a starting point for determining the overall dimensions of the interior set.
The Integrated Interior/Exterior Charts
We are now examining the changes needed to actually fit the interior into the exterior. The second group of charts above show a preliminary estimate of how such a design might look. The exterior has been blown up in size until the interior ceiling height will comfortably fit inside it then the cabin length was shortened to fit. Also visible is a study of the hatch mechanism and a comparison of the windows on the exterior and interior when they are integrated together to highlight the adjustments needed to arrive at an compatible design.
