In the TV series "UFO" SkyDiver submarines used this underground grotto as home port. Here they could be refit and resupplied out of sight of curious members of the public or curious spy satellites passing overhead. Seemingly fanciful in design like something out of Jules Verne's "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea", there are actually many precedents for this type of submarine base which include the WWII German-built base under the cliffs of Helgo Island and the huge Russian sub base at the foot of a mountain on the Kamchatka peninsula.
