ICARUS COCKPIT SEATS

As used on the TV series "Land of the Giants"

This is one of at least six seats built in this style at 20th Century Fox studios.  Four were used on the interior spaceship set built for "Planet of the Apes" and six were used as passenger seats for the "Spindrift" in "Land of the Giants".  In "Planet of the Apes" the upholstery was all black and in "Land of the Giants" it was black with a red headrest.  The example at the top is missing its four-point harness, large round headrest pad and the upholstery has been painted grey.  It was probably acquired from a prop rental house in Hollywood since Fox had sold off much of its property collection in the early '70s (in a series of three auctions run by Sotheby's).
