Land of the Giants
"Land of the Giants" was the
last of the Irwin Allen produced TV series. The show followed the
adventures of a group of people who's sub-orbital transport passes through
a space warp which transports them to a weird parallel Earth. The
cast soon learns that people here are ten times the size of normal humans.
Although it only had a short run, the series story line quickly evolved
from "adventures with giants" to a much more interesting interaction with
the giants society. Slowly the audience began to learn that the giants
were living in a police state with little or no room for independent thought
or self expression. Just as the series began to become more interesting,
with the humans beginning to lead the giants towards eventual rebellion
against their oppressive government, it was canceled. The second
half of the season had begun to take on a much more serious and dramatic
tone which, had the show been allowed to continue, might have seen it evolve
into a good science fiction drama.
